Curtis always wanted to work in the tech industry, studying IT through both high school and university and working in the industry ever since. After multiple years in customer support, an opportunity arose to join the technical documentation team, and he’s never looked back. Curtis joins the team as our Technical Documentation Writer, ready to build out the necessary materials to support our clients.

Our first question is always, has sport been a big factor in your life?

CP: I’ve always been a big sports fan and I played a bunch of junior sports including basketball. It was huge in the 90s and growing up in a small country town we didn’t have a large club, which was actually a good thing. As a supporter, my family and I follow rugby league and cricket heavily.

What drew you into the tech industry then?

CP: I’ve always had an interest in technology going through high school and then university. Once I graduated, I held a bunch of different customer support roles, and in my last role I had the opportunity to move into documentation writing. It was a really enticing opportunity because it was more of a proactive form of support, helping lift the load on the rest of the support team.

How did the opportunity to transfer into technical documentation writing come about?

CP: A good friend of mine who I worked with at the time was writing our documentation, and he asked if I wanted to join the team and help him. I jumped at the opportunity because I’d been working in the customer support team at multiple companies for over 8 years and was ready for a change. It was interesting and challenging and made me evaluate how to best present the information for our customers to easily digest.

How did you find out about the open role at EngageRM?

CP: Funnily enough someone contacted me on LinkedIn, and I already felt like I had a good balance at my previous role, so I wasn’t openly looking for a new opportunity. But then once I did a deep dive on EngageRM and the open role, I saw it was all in my wheelhouse, and the company values matched my own, so I applied.

What drew you in to EngageRM?

CP: The main thing was the fact that you work within the sports industry, as a sports fan it brings a little more meaning to the work that I do. Also, the size of the team was another factor, it means I’ll be able to get to know everyone on a deeper level. Finally, the fact that the EngageRM platform is based on Dynamics drew me in because I’ve never worked with it before, so learning something entirely new is an exciting challenge.

What do you aim to achieve with the work that you do?

CP: For me, it’s about enhancing our product through documentation and creating a hub that features the product and what it can do. Being able to support customers through this documentation and also show them different elements to the platform will help everyone, not just the clients but internal staff as well.

What excites you both personally and professionally at the moment?

CP: Professionally I’m excited to start something new as well as be surrounded by the mindset everyone at EngageRM has. Everyone has been super cheerful and happy, and it’s just a great energy to be around. Personally, I’m excited to see the blues win this year’s State of Origin!
