Timothy joined our team over 7 years ago and has become a valuable and loved member of our team. Behind the scenes, he works in our development team engineering and developing our platform for our customers. Here, he talks about what his day looks like and how the sky is the limit for EngageRM.
How would you explain your role at EngageRM?
TH: At the moment, I’m juggling two things at the moment firstly, I’m the administrator on the technical side helping our new support staff learn and understand our platform. Then I’m also the lead software engineer which means I create and engineer all of the software behind the scenes, my title pretty much describes what I do!
What’s been one of the toughest challenges you’ve faced in your role?
TH: For me, creating the Archtic’s import tool was a real challenge. I was given legacy code which I had to upgrade, and the files contained over 300,000 contacts that I needed to import and ensure there were no duplicates, a very time consuming process!
What does an ordinary day look like for you?
TH: At the moment, I’m shadowing David Banbury who is heading up support, just making sure he’s okay and answering any questions he may have. I’ve also been managing the admin side of things a little as well to make sure everything is on and working. In the future, I’ll be taking on more of a customer facing role and helping them through the technical aspects of our platform.
Have you always had an interest in sports and tech?
TH: I’ve always loved sport, both playing and spectating, I participated in over 10 sports growing up, and I wasn’t too bad at some of them but never pursued it. My other passion has always been computers and all things tech. When I went through my schooling, I deliberately picked computer and IT classes and once I finished, I knew I wanted to work in the industry, but I didn’t have any experience, so I worked in my father’s company and built up their technology. Then I got the job at EngageRM, and it’s married both my passions, so I never feel like I’m working when I love it so much.
What are some of your favourite things about working for EngageRM?
TH: I love the people I get to work with, we get on really well and it makes everyday great. There are no work politics, and everyone is really lovely I also come from a small business background, and joining another smallish business is awesome because you can have great relationships with all of your colleagues. I love what I do, and my motto is if you do what you love at work, you’ll never work a day in your life.
What are you aiming to achieve with the work you do?
TH: I just want to learn as much as I can, and work to better myself as a person and hopefully have an impact and leave the world a better place. I also want to help others and try to give them a pathway into the industry.
What excites you professionally?
TH: I’m really excited about our future; we’ve got the world at our feet with this company and the possibilities are endless. The organisations we work with are outstanding and being able to teach and help them succeed is a great feeling. I believe technology is a 21st century trade, like electricians and plumbers, except we use computers, and there is limitless potential to what we can do.
