Demi has always loved everything to do with technology and web development, so studying IT and working in the tech industry was a no brainer. It was through her time in the industry that she worked with our Senior Consultant Brent Howard, and when he approached her with an open role at EngageRM, she couldn’t pass up the opportunity.
Was sport a big aspect of your life growing up?
DB: A little, I’ve enjoyed playing some sports as I’ve grown up but I’m not much of a spectator. I’ve always been interested in web development and coding instead, which explains my career choice well!
Have you always had an interest in technology and knew pretty early on that you wanted to work there?
DB: 100%, like I said technology and web development have always been big hobbies of mine and when I was younger, I would spend my spare time coding and such. I did have a gap where I wasn’t doing anything to do with coding, but I saw a friend writing an AI and was hooked back in. Two weeks later I applied to study IT at university.
You’ve worked with CRM platform since you left university, what do you enjoy about it?
DB: Before my first role after graduating, I’d never heard of a CRM before but once I started working with one, I quickly found it so interesting. Every day is different when you’re working with a CRM, and in my role as a consultant, every client is different and their needs differ too, which keeps everything exciting. As well, coding can be a little lonely at times, so being able to hop on calls with clients really balanced my role out.
What were some projects you enjoyed at your previous role?
DB: There was a project with an aged care provider that I really enjoyed. The people I worked with internally on that project were great mentors and I learnt a lot during that time. That was how I met Brent Howard (EngageRM Senior Consultant), he was a mentor to me and being able to pick his brain really helped me.
How did you find out about the open role at EngageRM, and what drew you to it?
DB: Funnily enough, Brent approached me to catch up over lunch where he mentioned EngageRM and that there was an open role that I could fill and if I was interested. What drew me in was the fact that the role builds upon what I’m doing at the moment, I’ll get to build on some products outside the CRM and work on more integrations as well.
What are you aiming to achieve with the work that you do?
DB: My main goal in the next couple of years I think is to improve my skills technically. I was at my previous company for 4 and a half years, but I feel like I have a long way to go before I’m at the level of someone like Brent. So that would be the main thing I’d like to achieve with what I do at EngageRM.
What excites you both personally and professionally at the moment?
DB: Personally, my partner and I have been in the market for a property, which has taken up every weekend for the past 6 months looking at open homes! Professionally, I’m just excited to come into the office and meet everyone and get to know them a little better.
