Marcus is back! After completing an internship with us during his college break last year, Marcus is now joining the business once again as our Inside Sales Analyst, based in the US. Read on to learn a little more about Marcus’ love for sport and why he’s excited for this new chapter.

Has sport been a big influence in your life?

MR: Sport influences my life every day. Growing up I primarily played American football until high school, and I watch all the games on TV as well. I also love keeping up with the news, the public relations side of sports and player agents, it’s all really interesting to me.

How did that passion come about?

MR: The love for American football definitely wasn’t passed down to me, both of my parents are European, so it was a sport I delved into on my own, I loved the physicality of it. My parents did pass down a love of English football (soccer), so I’m a huge Manchester United fan which was heavily influenced by my dad. The games over there are wildly different to anything in the US.

Did you always know that you wanted to work in the sports industry?

MR: No, I would call myself a failed athlete, and it was during the end of that where I realized maybe there is more to the industry than being an athlete. Then once I was working in and around sports, that’s when I truly appreciated the whole back-end operation and just how much happens behind the scenes. Sports continue to grow and the investment behind it continues to increase, so it’s a great industry to be involved with.

You’re just about to wrap up your degree, what’s exciting about starting this next chapter?

MR: I’m excited for a little more freedom around where I chose to live and what I can do because once you start at university, you’re in that town for 4 years. Also, at university you’re receiving a huge amount of knowledge and taking it all in, so I’m ready to use that and also be able to share some of my own thoughts and ideas as well.

You were an intern with us last year, how did you find your way back to EngageRM?

MR: Tim (Barber, CCO) and I kept in touch once my internship was over and university started again, but he was always open about bringing me back on board. It’s a great opportunity for me to learn while I wrap up my degree, I just want to gain as much knowledge and insight as I can.

What are you aiming to achieve with the work you’ll do?

MR: My main goal is to bring value to the business. That’s something I’ve been taught is that whatever you do, always bring value. It doesn’t have to be in a specific area related to your role, it could be somewhere else, but always add value. In the long term, I want to put myself in a position to be able to make an impact on younger people.

What excites you at the moment?

MR: Professionally, I’m excited to contribute to EngageRM’s growth in the US, there’s a big opportunity for the business in the states and I can’t wait to contribute to that. Personally, I’m excited to graduate from my degree in a few short months and experience all the world has to offer.
