Get To Know: Steven Honkoop

After 14 years working for the Adelaide Crows Football Club in the Australian Football League, Steven joins EngageRM as our new Technical Operations Manager. If the Crows sound familiar, it may be because you recognise them as an EngageRM client! Having worked with our platform previously, Steven understands what clients need, and is excited to get stuck in. 

 

Growing up, was sport a big part of your life?  

SH: Absolutely, I casually participated in multiple sports and that passion has translated into work as I’ve been working within the sport industry for over 14 years! Besides sport, you’ll usually find me in my shed woodworking and welding, then I’ll switch on the tv and watch the footy after to wind down.  

 

What were some of your highlights during your 14 years at the club? 

SH: The 2017 AFL Grand Final was one. Although we did not get the win, going through The Finals series and the build-up to Grand Final day was amazing. On Grand Final day, the club flew us all out on a charter flight, and we all went to the game which was a once in a lifetime experience. Also just working in an organisation where there was always a bigger purpose, and the fact that you were doing all these things to connect fans with the club really stuck with me.  

 

You have a unique perspective because you’ve worked with our platform during your time at the Crows, what were some of your experiences?  

SH: Exactly, so I’ve had that visibility from end-to-end. I know what it’s like for teams to use the system because that’s what I experienced back at the Crows. I understand the pressure and pain points they might come across because I’ve experienced them too, I also know and understand the capabilities of the platform as well.  

 

What are you aiming to achieve with the work that you do? 

SH: For me, I’ve always thought of the customer and making sure their needs are met. I just want to ensure that both the internal and external customers get the most out of the platform and get a lot of value for what they put in. 

 

Finally, what excites you both personally and professionally? 

SH: Professionally, I really want to see EngageRM expand its reach in Australia and globally. Hopefully, we sign up a few more names in the US and UK. I’m always excited about new things in the land of technology and seeing where it can push the boundaries of what we thought was possible. Personally, I’m excited to enjoy some more time at home. I am a bit of a homebody and live semi-rural so doing things around the house like gardening and woodworking and just being with my wonderful family is extremely rewarding to me.
