Meet Marcus Read

Hi, I’m Marcus Read 

I was born and raised in Burlingame, California, just outside San Francisco  

But I’m currently in San Jose, California  

You’ll find me eating an authentic Neapolitan pizza! I’ll eat the entire pizza and regret it later 

And you’ll see me drinking anything with a cucumber in it. I have a strange affection for them and any cocktail involving a cucumber I’m usually a huge fan of 

A sports moment I’ll never forget is Derrick Rose being named the 2011 Most Valuable Player in the NBA was super memorable for me. Seeing someone that young accomplish such a feat, was extremely inspirational to me. Whenever I’m down on motivation I go back and re-watch his MVP speech. 

The sports venue you’ll have trouble getting me out of is the Chase Center in San Francisco! The atmosphere, location, and fan focus are top-tier. Golden State Warriors basketball games are electric there. I was lucky enough to be in the building for their 2022 championship run and will never forget the experience I had! 

I idolise Deion Sanders, a former NFL cornerback. He’s played for many NFL teams but is widely regarded as one of the best cornerbacks of all time. He has leveraged his playing career into a collegiate coaching career where he uses his knowledge and experience to help shape young athletes. 

On the weekend you’ll find me doing something active including snowboarding, golf, and hiking. On my creative side, I love attending concerts and going to art shows. 

I’m always happy to talk about the power of competition. Highly competitive situations give me a form of adrenaline. I love the feeling I get when my heart is pumping because I don’t want to lose. I have experienced this feeling in many aspects of life including sports, video games, and card games. While competition can bring out the best in people, it can also bring out the worst. It’s important to stay grounded in these environments and maintain honor, win or lose. 

Something you may not know about me is I’m a twin! I have a twin sister, Carmen, who I’m close with. While we do have some similarities in our appearance, we are NOT identical. (You would be surprised how much I get asked this)
