Ryan Reynolds is now an investor in Alpine Formula 1 team (alongside Rob McElhenney and Michael B. Jordan), with an investor group injecting over $200 million into the F1 team to support their ambitions of returning to the front of the grid. The investment sees Alpine become the second sporting outfit Reynolds has invested in after Welsh club Wrexham AFC.

Sports have become an alluring investment opportunity for influential and powerful individuals across the globe. Reynolds and McElhenney’s ownership of Wrexham utilized their personal profiles to transform all aspects of the football club over a few short years through revitalizing their sponsorships and boosting funds, which turned the club around.    

This kind of partnership has become more common. David Beckham is a key player at Inter Miami FC, Kevin Durant owns a pickleball team, and the Public Investment Fund is heavily supporting sporting codes around the globe. 

The sports and entertainment industry is a lucrative market, with a unique audience that supports a brand through thick and thin. As we’ve mentioned before, in which market can a brand cause agonizing heartbreak and still have people show up the next week and one after? 

Sports will only increase in momentum and funds; strong investors will come along too, with 83% of senior sports executives believing institutional investment (Private Equity and sovereign wealth funds) will continue to grow in the next three to five years.  

Without a robust platform behind the scenes, organizations are missing out on valuable data. For example, the negotiations between Spotify and FC Barcelona changed tune when Barca only held data on 1% of its 300 million strong fanbase, significantly reducing their potential partnership revenue.
