Get To Know: Brigette Coles

After working for multiple global companies including Boeing and Shell as well as a stint in the financial services, Brigette has made the switch into the sports tech industry as our new People & Talent Manager. A sports fan all her life, Brigette joins the team ready to learn more about our industry and support staff in achieving their goals.  

 

How influential was sport in your life growing up and now? 

BC: It’s a massive influence! I started with tennis then fell in love with volleyball, and it took over my life. My family loves sport and we watch all different codes together, so it was a major part of my upbringing. So much so that I ended up representing Western Australia in volleyball and attending a school that had a great volleyball program. I don’t play at the moment, probably because I was so invested back then. 

 

You’ve worked for Boeing and Shell, what were some highlights from your time there? 

BC: I was lucky enough to work directly with Boeing’s Vice President in Brisbane which I loved. She was the first female VP for Boeing in Australia and was such a great leader which taught me a lot. Many of the leadership team were ex-defence personnel who all had great leadership and teamwork training from their time in the armed forces, so I learnt as much as I could.  

 

How did you then transition to a more General Manager type role? 

BC: I was always interested in business management and from my time at Boeing, I loved the idea of everyone working together to achieve a common goal. I love working with multiple departments within a business and helping everyone get what they need to complete the work that they do.  

 

What sparked that interest in general management and HR? 

BC: I have always enjoyed working with people, I’ve always been a people person and it has always come quite naturally to me. When I’ve travelled, I always went out of my way to meet and connect with people to find out different things and perspectives on the world. I’ve also always had an interest in self-development and leadership, most of the books I own fall into one of those two categories, so having the opportunity to fit those passions into my work drew me in to the management and HR field.  

 

So then, how did you find out about EngageRM? 

BC: One of my friends worked at EngageRM and when we caught up for the first time in a while we obviously talked about work. One thing led to another and I mentioned that I was ready for a new challenge and she mentioned that I might be a good fit for the business. One thing led to another and I ended up on a few calls with Corey (EngageRM COO) where we discussed my role and how I could help the business from an onboarding and operational side.  

 

You also came to our Get Engaged Global Staff Conference, what were some of your key takeaways from the event? 

BC: Firstly, I’ve seen a lot of CRM platforms through my time in the financial services industry, and there are a lot of system that don’t do nearly half of what the EngageRM platform can do. Second, I loved understanding the purpose behind the brand, and physically seeing and hearing the passion everyone has for the sport and entertainment industry was infectious.  

 

What are you aiming to achieve with the work that you do? 

BC: I’ve always liked helping people to achieve their goals and work towards a bigger purpose. I love feeling like I’m able to help people achieve the success and growth that they envision for themselves. So, in the work that I do, I just aim to help people in achieving their goals and building success through that.  

 

Finally, what excites you at the moment? 

BC: I’m excited to leave financial services and enter an entirely new field and work in a completely different industry. After meeting everyone at the conference, I’m also excited to work with everyone and get to know them a little better, everyone who works for EngageRM really aspire to bigger and greater things which I love.
