Hi, I’m Jonathon De Conno
But you can call me Jonno
I was born and raised in Adelaide, South Australia
and I’m currently in Adelaide
You’ll find me eating Indian curry (Chicken Vindaloo), Mexican cuisine, Thai cuisine, chicken parmi with mushroom sauce, and I LOVE a cooked breakfast, my wife’s lasagna too, and finally, a cheese board
And you’ll see me drinking, well that depends on…nothing actually. Martini, gin, bourbon, red wines, Riesling, aged chardonnay, fortifieds, coffee, beer, or a good juice
A sports moment I’ll never forget is impossible to pick, so here are some of my favourites:
- Travis Head’s BBI 100 (NYE 2005)
- Hawthorn’s 3-peat
- Kieran Perkins defending his 1500 metre gold medal in 1996
- Ash Barty winning the 2021 Wimbledon Championship
- Steve Smith batting in the 2019 ashes
The sports venue you’ll have trouble getting me out of is again, impossible to choose. Adelaide Oval combines modern and old REALLY well and is a lovely place for sport. But The MCG for that enormous Colosseum-type feel, is just incredible. I’ll never forget my first AFL game at The G, Hawks v Pies in front of 81,000 fans, I’ve also been to three Boxing Day Ashes Tests (2010, 2013, 2017). For those three days, the average attendance was 87,000
I idolise no one in particular, I don’t really go mad for anyone. the closest person I have to an idol would be my dad. I think he’s been an incredible role model for me, and I would not be the person I am without him. No one else has had such a significant impact on shaping me as a person
On the weekend you’ll find me spending time with my family and our three-legged Kelpie Opie. My three kids have A LOT of interests they love, and my wife and I love them too! I also umpire some cricket matches, love a hit of golf and playing guitar
I’m always happy to talk about my kids! My greatest passion is being a dad and love my kids more than anything
Something you may not know about me is that I’ve been on Wheel of Fortune here in Australia, I must have gone close to breaking the record for most bankrupt spins! Also in 2005, a four-piece band I was in had a song of ours played on TripleJ’s Home & Hosed, hosted by Robbie Buck
